6th and 7th Lakes Improvement Association, Inc.
Spring 2009
Spring is here and summer is not too far behind. Time to enjoy the lakes again!
July 11 – Come to Mulligan's at the Inlet Golf Club for a Meet and Greet cocktail hour! Everyone is welcome to come and meet your neighbors; the new and the old. Mulligan’s bar is open in the evenings. We will start at 6:30. If this is successful, we can plan other social get-togethers.
August 1 – Annual Picnic, Fern Park starting at 11:00 a.m. Bring a side dish to feed your group plus 1. Agenda: 11-12 Registrations, Dues, socialization, 12-1 Key speaker (SURPRISE!), 1:00 Lunch! We supply the hot dogs and hamburgers, corn on the cob, and ice cream. During lunch, the Board will make its report, request a vote for new Board members, and have a question and answer period.
August 1 DUSK Fireworks! Over 7th Lake.
Dock on 7th Lake: The dock will be placed at the island in 7th Lake as soon as some needed repairs can be accomplished. It should be there not later than July 1.
Water Quality: Water quality in both lakes is extremely good. The Association monitors the water quality yearly making reports to the Town of Inlet as well as the State. The Water Quality test results are available on our website.
Milfoil: We are happy to report that approximately 60% of the high-density milfoil beds have been harvested! Unfortunately, milfoil will continue to be an on going project. Reports regarding Cazenovia and Upper Saranac Lakes are dismal because the issue was not addressed during the early stages. The milfoil mats are extremely dense and preclude motor boat operations in some areas of these lakes. Costs for cleaning these lakes are estimated to be in the $100's of thousands, over several years. Fortunately, we took a pro-active approach when this was first identified and we will continue with that approach with donations to that activity. To date, we have met our obligations to the Town of Inlet by providing the donations we collected; but, we will continue to collect donations because milfoil is an ongoing issue in our lakes. There are still beds of dense milfoil in 7th Lake which will be worked on this summer.
Lake Level Issues this Spring: During the May meeting, the subject of the low lake levels was addressed. The Board will be writing to the Black River Regulating Authority to try and get clarification on why the lake was lowered so much, when the dam was closed and who monitors the lake to determine when close the dam. We will report any response at the August 1 meeting.
Website: The website is up and running again. Please visit www.67lakeassociation.com. We hope to have a bulletin board up and running soon as well as a page for announcing any social get together.
Help!: Again, the Board needs volunteers. Please volunteer to serve on the Board, help with the website, help with the picnic, or any other items you are interested in.
Let us hear from you! If you have comment, complaints, compliments, or suggestions, please let the Board know. You can e-mail them to dmklym@verizon.net, dmkl@frontiernet.net, or call 301-460-1627 (before July 1) or 315-357-4985 after July 2. Carolyn Klym, the Secretary, will handle the calls and provide the information you need or direct it to the appropriate board official.
Membership Drive: Attached you will find your membership form. Please review the information, make any corrections, and return the entire form along with your dues and donations to the address on the form.
